This fall, ISOCARP and Glasgow City Council are proud co-host a global event to celebrate gender-sensitive planning work and recognise organisations, companies, and individuals who are committed to inclusive planning! Let’s get inspired by international thought-provoking sessions and learn together from Glasgow’s unique gender-responsive urban planning approach!

Bringing together planners, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, academics, and emerging professionals from around the world, the event fosters dialogue, collaboration, and recognition while promoting more inclusive and equitable planning practices.

Programme will include: 

• Keynote speakers and thematic sessions 
• The first standalone ISOCARP Women in Planning Awards Ceremony 
• Walking tours in Glasgow exploring “urban regeneration and the feminist city” 
• A networking Reception for all participants 

ISOCARP WOMEN IN PLANNING AWARDS 

The ISOCARP Women in Planning Awards were first launched in 2021 during the 57th ISOCARP World Planning Congress (WPC) in Doha, where they were introduced as a special initiative by our President, Elisabeth Belpaire, to recognise the outstanding contributions of women to the planning profession.

ISOCARP Women in Planning is entering an exciting new chapter! This November, you are invited to join us in Glasgow for the inaugural Women in Planning Awards (WIPA) ceremony. The WIPA will be held for the first time as a standalone event, reinforcing ISOCARP’s commitment to gender equity and to increasing the visibility of women shaping our cities and regions.

By, and for women, the Awards honour women planners, researchers, practitioners, leaders whose work advances sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban and region development. The Award also honours planning institutions and private companies that prioritise gender equity within their organisational culture and produce gender responsive planning work. By recognising excellence across diverse contexts, the programme aims to promote a more inclusive planning profession.

AWARDS NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN!

We encourage organisations, institutions, companies, and individuals from around the world to nominate outstanding women, women-led initiatives as well as gender responsive planning work that deserves international recognition and celebration!

CATEGORIES AND ELIGIBILITY FOR WIPA NOMINATIONS 2026:

PILLAR 3: Gender-Responsive Planning Practice, Policy & Research 

This pillar recognises outstanding gender-inclusive, or gender-informed planning work delivered in the twenty-four months preceding the nomination deadline. 

3.1 Gender-Informed Planning: Public Sector + non-profit organisations

ISOCARP is committed to making WIPA & Planning Day accessible and inclusive to participants from around the world. To support equitable participation, registration fees are structured according to World Bank country income classifications and ISOCARP membership status.

OUR VENUE

Nestled in the Merchant City district, The Social Hub Glasgow will host the Women in Planning Awards & Planning Day on the 23rd of November, providing a vibrant space for learning, networking and collaboration. Designed to bring people together with its contemporary event spaces and panoramic rooftop bar, it offers the perfect environment for planning professionals from around the world to connect. 

The day will conclude with a reception at The Social Hub, giving delegates the opportunity to celebrate the award winners and connect with fellow professionals in an informal setting.
